Mama's idea of camping is Holiday Inn Express, so when the annual Father and Sons Outing comes around, I'm grateful for the opportunity to stay home and hunker down with a five hour Pride and Prejudice Marathon, while the boys do their thing. This was Zachary's first overnight camping experience with daddy, and hopefully it will become a family tradition. It's quite a bit of work for one overnight trip. The boys left around five, drove about 1 1/2 hours to Timber Camp-Equestrian campground, where they set up camp, made some grub and enjoyed the activities around the campfire. Zach bounced back and forth between the boys playing freeze tag and capture the flag. After everyone else went to bed, Zach was still burning the midnight oil with a DVD and snacks in the back of daddy's SUV. Oh yes, they were really roughing it! Daddy made every effort to keep His Majesty as comfortable as possible in the rugged wilderness off of I-77.
You can see that Zachary is well equipped for adventure with his "canteen" and hat. He did take some time the next morning to explore the area and get up close and personal with the wildlife. They may not have seen any deer, elk or horse around the campsite, but there was evidence of their existence. In fact, Zach can now identify the poop of each of these species. He is definitely on his way to becoming a true outdoorsman.

It's always great to make new friends. Zachary's nursery friends from church all had a great time bonding in the wilderness. It sure gives snack time and crafts a run for its money. Zach enjoyed it so much he's already hitting his dad up for the next camping trip.

My boys had tons of fun at the Father & Sons Outing too. It is such a great thing for dads and boys to do.
